Event Details

"Perspectives on Education" is the theme for our third TEDx Salon which will feature three speakers with unique perspectives on education in the 21st century.

Edward TennerEdward Tenner,  a historian of technology and culture, a visiting scholar at Rutgers University, Princeton University, and the Smithsonian's Lemelson Center, and a blogger at theatlantic.com will examine the role that handwriting has to play in modern society. Is it time to drop handwriting from the curriculum in favor of coding and typing?

SuzanneSuzanne Carbonaro, the NCATE Assessment Coordinator at the School of Education and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Communication and Journalism Department at Rider University, is a techno-savvy educator and a proponent of incorporating technology into all areas of education across the spectrum from a young age. Suzanne will share her thoughts on the importance of technology in education.

Caroline PhinneyCaroline Phinney, founder of the Waldorf School of Princeton and a lifelong educator, will discuss the importance of play and exploration in early education.

Join us for our third Salon event under our TEDxPrincetonLibrary license. Salon events are a great way to keep in touch with the local TEDx community between events. We will be hosting 4-5 salons each year and the best way to keep current is on our Facbook page.

The price of admission includes a copy of Edward Tenner's  book "Why Things Bite Back" and a library bag. We will also be serving refreshments with light appetizers and desserts.

Note: Princeton Public Library is a recognized Dept. Of Education Continuing Education provider. New Jersey educators will be eligible to receive 2 hours of Continuing Education credit by attending this event. Certificates of attendance will be available at the end of the evening.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

At TEDxPrincetonLibrary, live speakers will spark deep discussion and connection. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
